Message from Clive Kefford, CEO Jakana Heights
When designing the apartments at Jakana Heights I thought what is it that people returning to Uganda really want? And it’s the same as everyone buying here wants: to enjoy the luxuries and lifestyle the West can offer and have these at a home in Uganda. And this can be expatriates, Ugandans coming back from the West or Ugandans who want a better standard of living.
Standing in the sunshine and looking over to Lake Victoria, I don’t need to tell you that there are many great reasons for moving here, but there are also some things which for me are needed to make a home here the perfect place to live. One is clean air, and another is a well-organized, functioning environment. Up here on the top of Konge Hill with the lake below, the air is clean and fresh because we are high enough above the city not to be affected by pollution and that is why I decided to build a community up here of well-organized apartments with efficient services.
For me the perfect lifestyle also means not spending too much time commuting and like many of the people I’ve been talking to about buying here, I can choose to work at home some of the time and when you have views like these, that is likely to be a lot of time.
So I’ve designed the apartments here with everything that’s needed to work efficiently: there is broadband of course, but also we have meeting rooms that can be used by the apartment owners living here for business, there is a concierge service for providing coffees for meetings and if you need someone to go out to buy something from town or just need a shirt ironing (we make it easy for you to never have to leave unless you want to).
For retired or semi-retired people these are great benefits that make all the difference. Most of the services that you need will be right here on site but if not you’ll have the option to send someone out if you don’t want to go yourself.
Home is also for relaxing and we have designed a full suite of leisure facilities: there is a pool and sauna, together with a gym and exercise room for working out. The club house includes an internet café for sitting and relaxing and a games room, all of which help to create a sense of community.
Space has been allocated for 5 shops – we haven’t signed the leases on these but expect to include a mini-supermarket for all basic requirements and a laundry service and have had interest from a buyer who wants to provide a crèche facility for families with small children.
It is a self-contained community up here, and you have everything you need on site, but when you need to go into town the centre is only 7 km or 4.5 miles away along Salama or Ggaba road. There are places nearby for entertainment, such as Cassia Lodge, which is a 5 or 10 minute drive on the neighbouring hill, and, at about the same distance, Munyonyo with its beach clubs, yachts and world-class conference centre.
The new Entebbe highway under construction will make the journey from the airport to Munyonyo very quick and easy and this works well for those who want to travel frequently or still have a home in the UK or US.
For investors this means that values will increase as the new four lane highway is being built to international standards, not only making the journey to the airport quick and easy but into Kampala as well.
At Jakana Heights we are working hard to create a first-world lifestyle in Kampala and so whether you’re running your own business, thinking of retiring or just wanting to live in a beautifully-designed environment, this will be a great investment and the best returns are, of course, achieved by buying early.
